AFC SOUTH PRESEASON PREVIEW
HOUSTON TEXANS
QB-Matt Schaub (C+), Rex Grossman (D), Dan Orlovsky (F)
RB-Steve Slaton (B+), Chris Brown (D+), Ryan Moats (D)
WR-Andre Johnson (A), Kevin Walter (C+), Andre Davis (D), David Anderson (D)
TE-Owen Daniels (B), Anthony Hill (F)
K-Kris Brown (B)
OUTLOOK: Don't look now, but the Texans are one of the prime teams that every Fantasy player needs to know. They've got a Top 5 receiver in Johnson, and Slaton and Daniels can reach that level this year as well. Schaub is a bit of a question mark though. Even though he should be pulled along to QB1 status by the offense, this is still a guy who got benched last year. If he struggles, the whole offense might disappoint. Slaton owners should actually be glad if one of his back-ups can take some carries away, because overuse could lead to an injury.
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
QB-Peyton Manning (A), Jim Sorgi (F)
RB-Joseph Addai (C+), Donald Brown (C), Mike Hart (D)
WR-Reggie Wayne (B+), Anthony Gonzalez (B), Pierre Garcon (D), Austin Collie (D), Roy Hall (F)
TE-Dallas Clark (B+), Gijon Robinson (D)
K-Adam Vinatieri (B)
OUTLOOK: You shouldn't worry too much about the coaching changes here, because Manning is the constant that will allow everything else to fall into place. The running back battle should be interesting. Addai fell quite a ways last year; maybe the drafting of Brown will light a spark under him. Either way, both should get their share of TDs. The third receiver spot in the Colts offense is usually a source of Fantasy production, but the no-names they have manning the position heading into camp don't inspire much confidence. Gonzalez is due for a big jump this year.
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
QB-David Garrard (C), Cleo Lemon (D)
RB-Maurice Jones-Drew (A), Greg Jones (D+), Rashad Jennings (D)
WR-Torry Holt (C+), Mike Walker (D+), Troy Williamson (D), Jarrett Dillard (D)
TE-Mercedes Lewis (C), Greg Estaandia (F)
K-Josh Scobee (C)
OUTLOOK: Jones-Drew was the name on the lips of many Fantasy players this offsason, as some early mock drafts have him as high as the second overall pick. That might be more a statement on the uncertainty at the top of the draft this year, but MJD should be a touchdown machine once again and have much more yardage to go with it. Holt will get a chance to resurrect his career in Jacksonville, but he proved last year that being the #1 guy on a bad passing offense doesn't amount to much. The late offseason trade of Dennis Northcutt means that Walker must have impressed the Jags, which makes him a decent deep sleeper.
TENNESSEE TITANS
QB-Kerry Collins (D+), Vince Young (D)
RB-Chris Johnson (B+), LenDale White (C+), Javon Ringer (D), Chris Henry (D)
WR-Nate Washington (C+), Justin Gage (C), Kenny Britt (D+), Lavelle Hawkins (F)
TE-Bo Scaife (C+), Alge Crumpler (D+)
K-Rob Bironas (B+)
OUTLOOK: It will be interesting to see if the Titans continue to divide the labor at running back. It worked well last year and keeping Johnson fresh and healthy is key, but he's too electric to keep off the field for long- especially for a team with few other big play options. White will thrive in the games in which he gets goal-line opportunities and be worthless in the ones he won't. That's why I'd much rather have him as my third back than my second. Don't get caried away with Washington; he may be the go-to guy but how will he respond to the increased coverage? Gage or the rookie Britt might end up being just as valuable.
